ENHANCING PRECISION AND COMFORT FOR SURGEONS: SURGICUT ERGONOMIC HANDLES

Ophthalmic surgical procedures demand exceptional precision and dexterity. Not only do surgeons need to maintain hours of high level of focus and perform intricate movements, but they may need to switch between different instruments while performing a surgery.

At SURGICON AG we recognize the drawbacks of traditional surgical knife handles, where their bulky and unergonomic design could impede surgeons’ performance and affect precession of the procedure.

As such, we decided to design a range of single-use knives with specially crafted ergonomic handles. These knives are offered in four distinct colours, aiming to provide further support and convenience to surgeons during their procedures.

ENHANCED COMFORT AND REDUCED FATIGUE

SURGICUT knife handles are designed with comfort in mind. The handles feature an anatomical shape that conform to the natural grip of the hand, reducing strain and fatigue during procedures.

By minimising the stress on the surgeon’s hand and wrist, they experience a more relaxed, comfortable, and secure grip, even if they’re wearing wet gloves, allowing them to maintain precision and focus throughout lengthy surgeries.

By allowing the surgeons to maintain a comfortable and secure grip, the chances of slippage or unintentional movements are reduced. This translates into a reduced potential for accidental tissue damage and should result in improved surgical outcomes, as well as enable a higher volume of procedures to take place.

COLOUR CODED FOR EASY RECOGNITION AND PRECISION

In a surgical setting, the time management and fluidity are crucial factors. The new SURGICUT color-coded handles facilitate in seamless surgical workflow, by promoting efficient instrument integration. Our handles come in yellow, purple, blue, and green colours, each assigned to a specific type or size of knife.

This enables a clear visual identification system to help surgeons and nurses distinguish between various instruments which reduces the risk of confusion or errors during surgery. It saves valuable time by eliminating the need for surgeons to closely examine each instrument, allowing more focus on the procedure itself. Additionally, the different coloured handles can be especially useful in poorly illuminated surgical theatres, making it easy to distinguish between knives set out on a sterile table.

Such system can also reduce setup times and enable smoother transitions between different stages of the procedure, enhancing overall efficiency and minimising disruptions. With less risk of instrument mix-ups or confusion, our handles can may contribute to a reduction in potential errors during surgery.

TRAINING AND EDUCATIONAL VALUE

The color-coded design of SURGICUT handles, offers additional benefits for educational purposes. The vibrant colours serve as a valuable visual aid, aiding in teaching and familiarizing aspiring surgeons with the instruments required for different procedures.

This intuitive approach helps the educators to effectively demonstrate and explain the use of specific instruments, enabling students to develop a deeper understanding of their roles and functionalities.

MINIMISED RISK OF OCCUPATIONAL INJURIES

Surgeons often experience occupational injuries, such as repetitive strain injuries and hand fatigue, due to the physical demands of their work.

The SURGICUT ergonomic handles address these concerns by reducing the strain on the hand and wrist, minimising the risk of such injuries. By promoting a more natural hand position and distributing pressure evenly, these handles help prevent long-term musculoskeletal issues, ensuring the longevity of a surgeon’s career.

REDUCED ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

At SURGICON AG, we are committed to promoting sustainability and recognise the significance of minimizing our environmental footprint, particularly with our single-use products. That’s why our SURGICUT ophthalmic knife handles not only deliver exceptional performance but also incorporate 30% less polymer compared to previous versions.

By reducing the amount of polymer used, we not only decrease our carbon footprint in terms of waste and resource consumption during manufacturing, but also offer additional environmental advantages for healthcare providers. With the weight of the knives reduced to just over 9g, the storage and transportation expenses can be effectively lowered.

We believe our handles are paving the way for improved surgical performance and helping to play a crucial role in maintaining patient safety and environmental efficiency.
